Helpful Information for Mopar Lift Supports

What is an auto lift support?

Your vehicle lift supports are components that help your trunk, hood, hatch, or liftgate stay up. These attachments let you load and unload cargo easier, give passengers a more convenient time entering or exiting your vehicle, and make specific areas in your car more accessible for repairs.

How long do lift supports last?

Most auto lift supports last around 50,000 miles, depending on how much you use them. These components can start to fail for several reasons, including fluid leaks from the pneumatic valve is the most common cause. These leaks will prevent the lift supports from compressing properly, keeping them from holding the hood, trunk, or hatch up.

What can happen if my vehicle has faulty lift supports?

Failing or damaged lift supports can result in injuries while you’re accessing your trunk or hood since they can slip and make the panels fall all of a sudden. This can damage your ride due to strong slams. Trunk lids with a broken lift strut may dent the compartment or remove the locking mechanism from the vehicle. Moreover, it can cause injuries due to the trunk, hood, or latch falling and closing instantly.

Can I replace just one lift support?

It’s ideal to replace both lift supports of a particular part in your vehicle if one of them begins to fail. Doing so will keep the structure of the trunk or hood even. And if possible, get new hardware for these components. Also make sure to install new ones that look and work the same as your existing ones to avoid any installation of functionality issues.

How do I replace my car’s lift supports?

Before changing these components, have someone hold your trunk lid, hood, hatch, or liftgate. You can also use a mount to keep it up. Once secure, remove the flat bale clip from one post, then repeat for the other. Next, put the new support in place and snap the post into the component’s mount. Repeat the previous step for the other post. Finally, release the liftgate slowly to check if the new components are working smoothly.
