Avoid Engine Stalling with a Genuine Flywheel
A clutch flywheel is a mechanical device located at the transmission side of your crankshaft. This flat gear maintains the rotational inertia to keep your engine running and smooths out imbalances by weighing the car’s crankshaft. It also transfers power to the wheels through the transmission via a clutch more efficiently
The clutch disc disengages from the flywheel as you press down the clutch pedal, allowing your car to glide smoothly to a stop or remain idle even if in gear without any problems. When you take your foot off the pedal, the clutch disc re-engages with the flywheel, resulting in the transmission input revolving with the engine crankshaft at the same speed.
These components are usually made from iron, steel, or aluminum to withstand heavy use or wear. However, it can still get damaged over time if not maintained properly. Oil leaks from the crankshaft seal or transmission front input shaft seal can cause your clutch to slip, causing extreme heat or friction that can warp the flywheel. If your car starts to have gear slippages, burning smells, inconsistent starts, and engine stalls, your flywheel might be compromised. Have them replaced whenever needed to avoid further engine damage and breakdowns.
